Just two minutes ago I decided to try my fingers at blogging. And thanks to our wonderful technology age... viola! I'm now officially a blogger!
It truly is amazing how far technology has come from 15-25 year ago. I find myself saying to my children, "You sound like a broken record!". The response is usually, "A what??" I remember 15 years ago my mother purchased a "personal" computer for her and I. She needed it for work, and I needed it for the college courses (which I never took). Inside the goodies that came with the computer was a CD-ROM marked Prodigy. I bugged my mom for several weeks to give it a whirl, but she insisted that she wasn't comfortable with what was to come with it. That and she had no clue how it worked. Almost 12 years ago I ended up becoming very sick while Scott and I house and animal sat his parent's house. I ended up staying home from work for several days, and found myself checking out the internet on my in-law's computer. It fascinated me to no end being able to reach out to anyone and everyone all in a matter of minutes.
I've never been great about writing letters or keeping journals. A friend of mine moved away in the middle of 9th grade. She's my best friend, and I'm happy to say she still is! And all of it was because she kept in touch with me through wonderful letters, cards and even post-cards. I clinged to the phone calls instead and ran up my mom's phone bill! Now today we keep in contact via Facebook and e-mail. It's funny how easy it is for me to jump onto the computer and write a novel, but yet I can't pick up a pencil or a pen and finish what I write. Maybe I'm a bit ADHD?
Of course the Internet is a wonderful tool for homeschooling my three children as well. Just yesterday, Chase asked me what our state tree was. Do you know? It's as simple as googling it! Red Pine is Minnesota's official State tree. But of course I keep the tabs on certain things on the Internet at a distance, and try to just keep to the good side of the computer inners.
